A split-thickness skin graft

A split-thickness skin graft (STSG) on the leg of a patient, due to car accident' trauma. STSG includes the epidermis and part of the dermis (as opposed to the full-thickness skin graft which consists of the epidermis and the entire thickness of the dermis). The thickness of a STSG depends on the donor' site and the needs of the patient. STSG’s are frequently used as they can cover large areas and the rate of autorejection is low, also the donor site heals by re-epitheliasation from the dermis and surrounding skin.
